Twilight Masquerade Card List: 10 Amazing Greninja ex Chase Cards

The Twilight Masquerade card list takes collectors to Kitakami, the festival land from the Teal Mask chapter of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Released on 24 May 2024, Twilight Masquerade is the sixth main expansion of the era. It stars Ogerpon in all four of its masks, introduces Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex and includes a Greninja ex Special Illustration Rare that became one of the most valuable cards of the year. This guide breaks down the full Twilight Masquerade card list, the numbering, the top chase cards and which products to buy in Australia.

Twilight Masquerade followed Temporal Forces and kept its ACE SPEC Trainers, so the two sets work well together for both collectors and players.

Kitakami itself gives the set a distinct feel. Many cards show lantern-lit festival scenes, misty mountains and rice paddies, which sets the artwork apart from the urban Paldea scenes of earlier sets. Collectors who enjoy a strong sense of place often rank this among their favourite binders of the era.

Ogerpon and its four masks

Ogerpon is the star of Kitakami, and the set celebrates it in every form. Teal Mask Ogerpon ex is a Grass type, Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon ex is Fire, Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex is Water and Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex is Fighting. Ogerpon appears more than a dozen times across the set, so collectors who love it can build a full page of different versions.

Each mask also has its own Special Illustration Rare, which makes completing all four a satisfying goal. They are usually more affordable than the top chase cards, so the set is friendly for Ogerpon fans on a budget.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex is another highlight. This unique Ursaluna form comes from the Kitakami story, and its dark red moonlit artwork makes its Special Illustration Rare one of the most atmospheric cards in the Twilight Masquerade card list.

How the Twilight Masquerade card list is numbered

Cards numbered 001 to 167 form the main set, including the double rare Pokémon ex such as Teal Mask Ogerpon ex at 025/167 and Greninja ex at 106/167. Anything numbered 168 or higher is a secret rare, in four blocks.

  • 168 to 188: 21 Illustration Rares, including Timburr and Eevee
  • 189 to 209: 21 Ultra Rares, including Magcargo ex, Iron Thorns ex, Dragapult ex and the Supporters Kieran and Lucian
  • 210 to 220: 11 Special Illustration Rares, including Sinistcha ex, all four Ogerpon ex, Greninja ex, Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex, Carmine, Lana’s Aid and Perrin
  • 221 to 226: 6 gold Hyper Rares

The Special Illustration Rare block is one of the strongest of the era, with a mix of Pokémon and Supporters that appeals to every kind of collector.

When you open a large amount of product, split it into main set cards, reverse holos and secret rares. Checking the secret pile against the Twilight Masquerade card list straight away is the simplest way to keep track of your Illustration Rares and avoid losing one in a bulk box.

Greninja ex, the clear top card

Illustrated by akagi, the Greninja ex Special Illustration Rare shows Greninja in a dramatic ninja pose, and it has been the most valuable card in the set since release. It is also a strong competitive card, with its Mirage Barrage attack able to spread damage across the opponent’s Pokémon. That combination of art and playability keeps demand high.

Perrin and Carmine

Two Supporter Special Illustration Rares sit near the top. Perrin, the photographer, appears in a beautiful outdoor scene, and Carmine, one of the key characters of Kitakami, has a lively portrait that fans love. Both are must-haves for Trainer collectors.

Eevee and Chansey

Eevee Illustration Rares are always popular, and this one is no exception. Chansey has also climbed the rankings thanks to its cheerful artwork, proving once again that Illustration Rares can compete with much rarer cards.

Pull rates are not officially published, so treat online numbers as community estimates. Across the Twilight Masquerade card list, Illustration Rares turn up regularly, while each specific Special Illustration Rare is thought to need several hundred packs. The Greninja ex in particular is a rare pull, so most collectors buy it as a single.

Twilight Masquerade for players

The set had a huge competitive impact. Dragapult ex became one of the strongest decks of its time, Greninja ex and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex both saw play, and Teal Mask Ogerpon ex powered fast Grass decks. Players should collect the main set double rare versions, which play exactly the same as the premium printings.

Protect your pulls from the start. Sleeve every Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare immediately, keep the best ones in toploaders or magnetic cases and store binders upright in a cool, dry room. Before grading, check centring, corners, edges and surface under a bright light.

Many collectors also keep a separate page for every Ogerpon they own. It is a fun side goal that turns duplicates into a display rather than a pile of extras.

How to complete the Twilight Masquerade card list

  1. Open one or two booster boxes to complete most of the 167-card main set
  2. Use singles to finish the main set
  3. Collect the 21 Illustration Rares, starting with Eevee and Chansey
  4. Trade duplicate Ultra Rares at local game nights
  5. Buy the Special Illustration Rares and Hyper Rares as singles once prices settle

The Teal Mask story also introduced Kieran, Carmine and the legendary Loyal Three, and the set brings many of those characters to cards for the first time. Fans of the story can collect a full Kitakami page with Kieran, Carmine, Perrin and the four Ogerpon masks side by side.

That kind of themed goal is often more rewarding than chasing the single most expensive card, and it keeps your spending focused on the cards you love.

The Japanese sets behind Twilight Masquerade

Twilight Masquerade is based mainly on the Japanese Mask of Change expansion, with additional cards from Crimson Haze. Japanese collectors can explore the Mask of Change booster box and the Crimson Haze booster box.

Store sealed boxes flat and out of sunlight, with the shrink wrap untouched. A printed Twilight Masquerade card list kept with your binder makes it easy to see which singles you still need when trading at a local game night.

If you are buying for a younger collector, an Elite Trainer Box is a great choice. It includes everything needed to start playing, and the Ogerpon artwork is a hit with kids.
